PERSONAL STATEMENT

I am a versatile and fast learning individual with a passion for trying my hand at new and exciting challenges. I have an excellent proven track record, both in IT and media businesses as well as a self-employed Personal Trainer. After just over a year working solely in the fitness industry, I now wish to return to a more stable career path and begin to shape my future in a role that I find both interesting and challenging. I am energetic, enthusiastic and target driven and have a wonderful lust for knowledge that I’ve found enables me to become successful at most goals that I strive to achieve, even if they initially appear to be outside of my primary skill sets. I seek a job that allows me to bring my flair and creativity into it and that will offer opportunities to both progress and diversify to new challenges further down the line.

Since qualifying as a Personal Trainer in 2008, I have worked in numerous gyms; both as a Personal Trainer and a Fitness Instructor; as well as running my own weekly military fitness camps, running clubs and parkour (free-running) classes, and working alongside some major companies doing fitness based charity work. My Personal Training history to date includes:

Fulham Football Club – Senior Fitness Instructor (Jan 2009 – Present)
Andy Whitehead Training – Freelance Personal Trainer (Feb 2008 – Present)
ABC: Andy’s Boot Camp – ‘Sergeant Major’ Instructor (June 2006 – Present)
Vie Health Clubs – Gym Instructor / Class Teacher (Nov 2008 – Jan 2009)
GymBox – VPT: Very Personal Trainer (Aug 2008 – Dec 2009)

lastminute.com - Global Lead UI Designer for SEO (June 2006 – Jan 2008)

lastminute.comAt lastminute.com, I was primarily responsible for the design and development of all the web pages responsible for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). As the lead user interface developer, I had to work closely with both back-end XML / database developers and graphic designers to ensure that the pages I created fit in with the rest of the site’s scheme as well as generating an optimised structure for maximum SEO penetration. I also had to liaise closely with Spanish and Italian developers so that we were able to deploy the SEO solution in multiple languages. I also worked on countless other smaller development and design tasks during my time there, allowing me to work with a range of people from all different areas of the business.

Main development languages used: Python, Zope, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML
Other programs used daily: Photoshop CS2/3, Flash MX, Word 2003/7, Excel 2003/7

filmnight.com - Senior Developer (Aug 2005 – June 2006)

filmnight.comI joined filmnight.com as a Junior Developer straight out of university and quickly progressed to the Senior Developer role that I held for the rest of my time there. My daily duties involved the design and development of both the front-end and the back-end of the online store, as well as the design and creation of micro-sites for films such as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, King Kong, The Chronicles of Narnia, Mask of Zorro, Goal! and The Muppets. I also worked directly with Empire Magazine in order to build the Empire Film Store, a DVD retail solution that sat alongside their existing website. Outside of online work, I designed multiple offline advertising campaigns that featured heavily in magazines such as Empire, Total Film and DVD as well as various brochures, leaflets and even a placement for print on a taxi cab. Unfortunately the company folded in 2008, so none of the major websites that I worked on exist anymore.

Main development languages used: PHP, ASP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, ActionScript 2.0
Other programs used daily: Photoshop CS2, Flash MX, Word 2003

British Telecom - Data Solution and MSiP Support Designer (SEPT 2003 – SEPT 2004)

INTERESTS

As a Personal Trainer, fitness features a in the forefront of my life and I do weights based exercise five days a week as well as cycling around 20 miles a day. I am a cycling enthusiast and as well as enjoying riding them, I have designed and even built my own custom bikes in the past, including ones with satellite navigation, a built in MP3 player and neon ‘under floor’ style lighting.

I have been an avid gamer since I got my first console when I was five, and was a sponsored semi-professional CounterStrike Source player for a little while. Nowadays, I spend a fair amount of time playing on my PS3, both offline by myself and online with friends. I’m a keen social networker, not only for gaming and on sites like facebook, but I’m also a Twitterer and have been passionate blogger for almost three years.

Despite not working in online development for the last year or so, I’ve been active in the field by designing websites for myself and friends using a variety of methods, including building one completely from scratch, through to learning and outputting sites using a Drupal CMS.

I’m also incredibly interested in technology and its application into modern life. The advancements and progress of technology for film, the Internet, gaming, mobile phones and all other areas that some people may consider ‘geeky’, totally fascinates me. If it’s new and it’s shiny, I have it or want it.
